Education High school diploma or GED Experience Two (2) years of background investigations experience in a legal, law enforcement, or other confidential environment where conducting in-depth background investigations was the primary duty. Combined education and experience qualifications Post-secondary education in criminal justice or a closely related field may substitute for one year of the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Communicates with applicants via telephone, email, and in person. Coordinates the distribution and collection of Personal History Statements from candidates. Researches, reviews and analyzes candidate’s prior personal and employment history information thoroughly and accurately. Develops and analyzes information from interviews with candidates, family members, references, and prior employers. Develops and analyzes relevant candidate information derived and developed from resources including law enforcement systems, public domain databases, social media websites to check for inconsistencies related to the applicant’s background. Researches criminal justice information and collects pertinent documents, analyzes information, and writes comprehensive reports for review by Executive staff. Conducts additional case and data research as required including MVD records, driving history and vital records. Acts as Sheriff’s Office contact with candidates to obtain information and answer procedural inquiries related to the background investigations process. Performs clerical duties including typing and filing. Maintains the confidentiality and security of sensitive employment files. Provides backup staffing coverage for other assigned Division personnel as needed. Working Conditions Maricopa County is an EEO/ADA Reasonable Accommodation Employer. Organize, prioritize, and perform tasks efficiently within tight timelines. Work independently with minimal supervision. Perform detail work with a high degree of accuracy. Exercise sound judgment in safeguarding confidential or sensitive information. Maintain diplomacy when dealing with people in sensitive situations.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

The hiring authority will select the successful candidate based on departmental needs. All offers of employment made to new hires and rehires at Maricopa County are contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment thorough background investigation. A background investigation is conducted on a current employee who changes to a Safety Sensitive Position or one having the potential for serious adverse impact on the integrity or efficiency of the County. These requirements do not pertain to employees of elected officials who undergo background investigation processes administered through their respective offices. Typically successful candidates are hired at a salary rate, up to midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity and budgetary allowances.
