Summary Serves as liaisons and provides vital communications between public and local law enforcement to ensure safety of citizens and police officers. Technician position is specialized clerical work of a complex nature that is responsible for department criminal justice data. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Serves as police records custodian, preparing specialized files and documents. Performs data entry of criminal activity information into computerized criminal justice information systems, ensuring compliance with regulations. Conducts data searches, retrievals, and cancellations across various information systems, records, and archives. Retrieves and distributes data/reports from National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) to authorized personnel Assigns crime codes and compiles statistical data Testifies in court and notarizes statements and complaints Logs and maintains activity reports in preparation for filing into systems Verifies identity, conducts fingerprinting service, collects monetary transactions, and issue receipts Identifies and prepares reports for destruction according to retention limits. Photographs, fingerprints, and registers convicted sex offenders, notifying law enforcement of their status and updating the DPS Sex Offender Website. Processes incoming mail and prepares documents for release to public, attorneys and insurance companies Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent Two (2) years of experience in customer service Demonstrated proficiency in typing as determined by the department Pass an extensive criminal background check and polygraph exam and evaluation Preferred Qualifications Experience in law enforcement office Familiar with law enforcement terminology Licenses and Certifications Able to obtain TLETS (Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System) certification within six (6) months of employment Able to obtain TCIC/NCIC (Texas Crime Information Center/ National Crime Information Center) Terminal Operator certification within six (6) months of employment Thank you for your interest in the position.
