The Racing Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting the Director of Racing in the operations of live harness racing, including determining race conditions, structures, and schedules. This role collaborates with internal and external business partners, contacts, and organizations, including New York State (NYS) Gaming Commission, The Standardbred Owners Association, American Harness Racing Secretaries, Inc., and United States Trotting Association (USTA). All duties are performed in accordance with property and company policies, practices, and procedures. Assist the Race team with managing racing and paddock crews, including operational and performance management. Assist Race team with putting races together; utilize USTA ETrack system to record and accept entries and compile race cards; ensure accuracy, quality, and quantity of product/entrants and compliance with established race conditions and regulatory parameters while identifying and mitigating any conflicts of interests. Manage department labor budget; creating schedules for team members accordingly based on business need. Review and approve time worked and time off requests. Prepare appropriate forms or nomination blanks for all Late Closing Series following the guidelines set forth by the Race Secretary. Ensure race programs are received and distributed to appropriate parties as required. Assist Race team with reviewing and verifying all entrants and applicable declarations to ensure proper classification and race eligibility and for accuracy for publication; ensure entrants are processed in the system and appropriate paperwork and information is collected and/or documented. Calculate purses for Stake Races, Late Closers, Sire Stakes, Amateur Races (NAADA & CKG Billings) and determine which Stake account the purse will come from to ensure efficient execution of payment for all involved parties. Oversee execution of claims (purchases) according to rules and regulations of NYS Gaming Commission; includes ensuring claimants submit appropriate paperwork and have established credit, as required; accepting and verifying payment according to regulations; and preparing and distributing notifications to appropriate parties. Proof Race Card for accuracy with the race conditions, look for conflict of interests and check to see if any race needs adjustment for wagering purposes as deemed necessary. Prepare Point Standings for all Late Closing; calculate the standings after each leg for publication in various media/informational sources. Attend and observe night races for documentation and to provide support to horsemen with any issues or questions. Compile post-race summaries and information across various reporting functions, including recording handle, running order, finish order and times, scratches, horses making breaks, any horses being placed on the Steward’s list with supporting documentation. Must be 18 years or older and able to obtain proper licensure in accordance with the New York State Gaming Commission. Has a Bachelors Degree along with 2 years of prior relevant experience ideally working at a harness racetrack. Is able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in written form.
