Location: Newark, CA
Position: 7 Months Contract (Possible Extenion)
Title: 2070 - Sr. CAD Engineer, Body Structures
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the CAD modeling and development of weight efficient automotive BIW Structural parts and assemblies to deliver the highest level of performance in NVH, Durability and Crashworthiness performance
- Perform detailed analysis of section properties, materials and manufacturing processes through benchmarking activities to understand competitiveness of designs
- Manage the CAD design of parts to ensure proper package and production release in 3D experience platform. Develop CAD to support design alternative studies and production development of parts
- Application of required tolerances using GD&T CAD tools
- Design with excellence at system and component level with great attention to every detail optimized for performance, size, weight, durability and cost
- Work closely with both internal teams and external suppliers using creativity and teamwork to integrate multiple systems in the most efficient way possible
- Cross functionally work with Manufacturing, Design and Product Development as well as with Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Stamping and Suppliers on items such as tool buy-offs and secondary component changes
- Coordinate and communicate with interfacing suppliers
- Effectively provide direction to others and negotiate a balanced solution
- Travel domestically and internationally as required
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of expertise in automotive Body Structures systems and sub-systems at OEM or supplier desired
- Proven 3D CAD skills, proficient with 3D Experience platform/CATIA V5/V6. Experience in Generative Shape Design module, surfacing and sheet metal design
- Experience in full life cycle development from concept to prototype to full production
- Experience in manufacturing processes and joining applicable for body structures such as cold form stamping, hot form stamping, welding, casting, and extrusion
- Experience in prototype assembly and production assembly with the willingness to assemble your own parts
- Excellent communication and team building skills
Preferred:
- Experience in Aluminum tubular welded structures (very advantageous)
- Experience working with Class A surface data
- Experience with structural load path planning and solving complicated packaging problems
- Experience in setting up the sealing strategies
- Ability to create testing plans and conduct / coordinate physical tests to prove out design concepts and ensure performance targets are being achieved
- Detail oriented personality with a determined problem-solving attitude using an Engineering first principles approach
- Design release engineering experience including engineering change management and project management experiences
- A strong understanding of various analysis tools such as ANSYS, OptiStruct, MatLab, ADAMS, etc.
- Proof of excellence in your past position, while demonstrating profound creativity in resolving mechanical design problems
- Solid track record of successful system level integration
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent from ABET accredited institution or equivalent body structures automotive experience
