Job Description

12 month contract, potential for extension or conversion

North Haven, CT

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia, web-based publications and user sites

•Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation

•Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for technical users.

•Design, develop, and maintain service manual using MadCap Flare and Adobe FrameMaker® software applications.

•Control service manual versioning and maintain the service manual archives.

•Create easy-to-understand online user interface text, help, and training guides.

•Perform the administrative documentation tasks required to establish and track the service manual in a Product Lifecycle Management system.

•Continuously evaluate business processes, identify improvement opportunities, and implement improvements.

•Standardize content across platforms and media. All activities must be performed incompliance with the Quality System.

•Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations.

•Works independently with general supervision on larger, moderately complex projects/assignments.

•All other duties as assigned.

•Occasional domestic and international travel may be required. Travel requirement: Less than 10%

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

•BS / BA in a technical science, English, or Journalism.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

•2+ years of technical writing or technical editing experience in a technical publications group.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

•Advanced experience with MadCap Flare software or Adobe FrameMaker®, and has experience with Structured Authoring using XML and content management solutions.

•Advanced Experience with Adobe Acrobat® and PhotoShop® software, vector graphics software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator® or CoreDraw) and HTML.

•Strong organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Technical writing experience in the medical device industry, scientific, or other regulated industry.
  • Experience with professional translation services.
  • Web design & online content development experience
