Job Type Full-time Description Freeze has been lifted - Job is Active. Grade: 5 Full Time non-exempt, emergency Effective: 05/08/2025 Performs intermediate semiskilled work in locating and marking water and sewer lines; does related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Crew Supervisor. This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and noise. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS /TYPICAL TASKS:

Locating and marking underground water and sewer lines; preparing and maintaining files and records. Locates and marks water and sewer utilities in response to Miss Utility tickets including after hour emergencies. Assists with water and sewer line repairs, installations, and taps. Provides contractors with detailed information on line locations. Checks new areas of development to ensure knowledge of line locations. Reads blueprints, abstracts, and site plans; researches utilities for planning, development, and GIS mapping. Responds to emergency requests as required. Maintains access to utilities including meters, valves, manholes, hydrants; spring/fall flushing, paving, and performs general ground maintenance such as mowing, weed eating, trimming tree limbs, etc. Maintains log of activities and prepares required reports. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor. Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of the ability to use line locating equipment; the roadways and subdivisions of the Town and the Town's service district within the county; thorough knowledge of the hazards of the work and of necessary safety precautions; ability to read blueprints; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, contractors, other utilities, and the general public; ability to keep detailed and accurate records of the work performed; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to work under adverse weather conditions; skill in the use of measuring devices, ability to work independently with little to no constant supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and moderate experience in water and sewer maintenance and construction.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. May require possession of or ability to acquire VDOT flagger certification. Town of Warrenton
